BUILDING A STRONGER GORDONRIDGE TOGETHER
Gordonridge Community Development Initiative is a Black, resident-led organization working to strengthen families and improve the quality of life for residents in the Gordonridge community in Scarborough.
Our work brings generations together, with a strong focus on seniors and youth. Through intergenerational programs, community safety initiatives, family support, leadership development and connections to resources, we help residents build a stronger and more connected community.

“Residents should have a strong voice in shaping their own community.”
— Gordonridge CDI Principle
Created by Residents. Dedicated to Our Families.
Gordonridge Community Development Initiative was created by residents who understand the strengths, challenges and everyday realities of the Gordonridge community.
Gordonridge is a Toronto Community Housing community in Scarborough and is home to many Black families, including first- and second-generation Black immigrant families.
We believe residents should have a strong voice in shaping their own community. Our organization brings seniors, youth, families, volunteers and community partners together to address local needs, develop resident leadership and create opportunities for people to support one another.
Resident Voice
Local priorities steered directly by lived community experience and resident decision-making.
Cultural Roots
Centering the dignity, aspirations, and intergenerational wellness of Black families.
Mutual Care
Developing local leadership so neighbors can lift, mentor, and support one another.
CONNECTING GENERATIONS.
STRENGTHENING GORDONRIDGE.
Our intergenerational approach brings seniors and youth together to learn from one another, build lasting relationships, and eliminate isolation across our neighborhood.
Connects Seniors & Youth
Creating intentional spaces where youth and older adults share conversations, guidance, and respect.
Reduces Social Isolation
Engaging seniors who may live alone through regular gatherings, community meals, and digital connection.
Develops Young Leaders
Equipping youth with confidence, accountability, and life-skills through mentorship and community projects.
Builds Stronger Relationships
Bridging generation gaps so youth and elders greet, support, and protect one another on daily walks.
Strengthens Wider Community
A connected neighborhood is a safer, more resilient neighborhood where every resident has an active voice.
Our Core Program Areas
Resident-led initiatives designed specifically to strengthen families, engage seniors, empower youth, and foster local leadership.

Intergenerational Seniors & Youth Programs
Our seniors and youth programs bring different generations together to learn from one another, build relationships and reduce isolation. Young people gain knowledge, guidance and positive relationships with older residents, while seniors remain active, connected and involved in the community.
Seniors Engagement & Wellness
We create opportunities for seniors to remain active and connected through social gatherings, wellness activities, workshops, community meals, digital literacy, outings and peer support. A major focus is reaching seniors who may be isolated or have difficulty accessing services and community activities.
Youth Leadership & Development
We help young people build confidence, leadership skills and stronger connections to their community. Youth can participate in mentoring, leadership development, volunteering, employment readiness, life-skills activities and community projects.
Community Safety & Violence Prevention
We work with residents, youth, families and community partners to promote safer neighbourhoods. Our approach focuses on prevention, positive relationships, resident involvement, conflict prevention and connecting young people and families with appropriate supports.
Family & Community Support
We help residents connect with food support, employment opportunities, housing and community resources, workshops, referrals and other services. Our goal is to make it easier for families to find help when they need it.
Resident Leadership & Volunteerism
Residents are not only participants in our programs; they are part of leading the work. We create opportunities for seniors, youth, parents and other residents to volunteer, develop leadership skills, participate in community decision-making and help shape Gordonridge initiatives.
THIS IS GORDONRIDGE.
Our work is firmly centred in the Gordonridge Toronto Community Housing community in Scarborough. We proudly serve residents and families living in and around:
